Surface Pertex Jacket Tested | Product Focus

Surface have come out with this simple Pertex top that packs down small enough to fit in a jersey pocket making it a useful extra layer when out riding. Just the job for riding this time of year and during the unpredicatble summer !

We have had the jacket for a few months now and it has performed well with use in the wind, rain and cold these very British months have given us recently. Having run through a few different combinati0ns the Pertex fabric works really well with a decent Merino baselayer, personally I get pretty warm riding so rarely reach for a full winter jacket and this combination has proved a winner in a variety of conditions. The pertex dries quickly and won’t get wiffy if you chuck it in the back of the van wet through. Surface describe it as a shower proof jacket which is right, this isn’t going to keep out horizontal rain but it will fend off a shower or three out on the trail.

The design detailing that has gone in to the Surface range is well thought out. Overall the fit is slim but cut correctly so that you know you are wearing a bike specific garment. Good length sleeves are internally cuffed keep the wind out and a storm flap down the full zip will keep your torso warm too. The chest pocket is a decent size, enough for phone and a gel or two and zipping up bottom to top makes accessing and closing it easy when riding. This pocket is also the one the whole thing can be packed down into.

For that added bit of warmth with out forefitting breathability this Jacket from Surface fits the bill perfectly, we like it, not complicated but with all the features you need. The green and purple are bright enough to be seen on the road if you are rolling home at dusk ( but you will have lights… ) and the black version is for those who want to stay stealthy.
