2012 Fox 40 Bike

FOX Racing Shox continues to improve the 40 series and for 2012 they have a few updates that make the venerable FOX 40 even better.

Piloted by downhiller’s and freerider’s alike, the burly 40mm FOX fork is an offering that many riders lust over. Offering 8” / 203mm of travel, and FOX’s FIT RC2 damping, this is a fork that needs little introduction.

2012 Fox 40 Springs purple and green

The FOX 40 includes 3 springs, (blue TI installed), as well as a purple and green spring as well. These springs are there to allow for riders of a wide variety of weights to use the FOX 40 straight out of the box. Additional springs are also available to fit an even wider range should you find yourself out of the 120lbs to 210lbs weight range.

2012 Fox 40 crown

The 2012 FOX 40 FIT RC2 features and inverted FIT damper compared to the 2010 version so the compression adjusters are located on top of the stanchion and the rebound is located on the bottom of the right stanchion. This makes servicing the 40 even easier and offers improved reliablity in our experience.

The top of the FOX 40 crown includes holes for a direct mount stem, a spring preload adjuster on the left, and high/low speed compression adjusters on the right. The bottom right leg houses the rebound adjuster.

When it comes to ride quality, the 2012 40 doesn’t disappoint. FOX has improved its damping range and with the inclusion of Kashima and the SKF seals, its an even more impressive fork that has it high on our list of good DH forks. The 40mm stanchions help give the 40 a solid chassis that helps keep the fork tracking well through rough lines.
